LAQ's #2

GENERAL
1. The book i am currently reading is the sequel to the previous book i read named Tyrell. This sequels name is called "Bronxwood." As i posted in my previous LAQ's the narrative of the story is in first person. Tyrell tells the entire story throughout the entire book. Bronxwood is a continuation to Tyrells life in the book Tyrell. After Tyrells brother Troy is taken out of his mothers custody and put into "the stystem." Tyrell moves in with his friend Cal and begins to DJ for a living but when Tyrells father is released from jail Tyrell struggles with the fact of his fathers controlling choices over Tyrells life. He must choose to take risks to be independent or to make amends and settle back down with his father.
2. The way i see the theme is that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. (I understand this is a little cliche.)  Tyrell overcame great odds and struggles to earn his independence and even though he know it wouldn't be easy he took the risk.
3. The entire tone of the book is angry. When Tyrells father is let out of jail he tries to avoid him because he wants nothing to do with him,  when his ex girlfriend Novisha attempts to make her way back in his life and apologize Tyrell snaps at her and gets angry with her and even when Tyrells dad goes to visit Troy in foster care Tyrell is angry because he knows his father is nothing but trouble.
4. The tone and mood was enforced in this book. When the author spoke for Tyrell she made sure you felt every single feelings Tyrell was feeling. His anger was your anger and his pain was your pain. It was consistently noticeable.
CHARACTERIZATION:
1. As was the last story, a majority of Bronxwood is indirect characterization. You never really hear or understand whats going on in any other characters head but Tyrells because everything you read is what Tyrell is describing. The only direct characterization there is, is the characterization used throughout the story when Tyrell is talking.
2.Both syntax and diction remain the same throughout the story. Tyrell isn't a very well educated teen so the narrative of the story can be difficult to understand
3. Tyrell is a dynamic and round character. His personality and life are fully in place when the reader begins the book. He makes mistakes, decisions and learns life lessons throughout the story.\
4. I feel the same way as i did when i read Tyrell. This character was real Tyrell wasn't another "character in a story." He was a real person with real feelings and real life choices. When his friend Cal's brother kicked him out because Tyrell refused to sell dope and he had to decide whether he was going to live on the streets or move back in with his dad my heart broke. I was hoping  and reading glutinously to find out whether he would be ok and if everything would work out. After reading the sequel i can definitely say Tyrells made an impact on me.
